USPS Rate Increases In Effect Monday

See if I have the right month this time! lol

The postal rates increase Monday! This means you need to get to the Post Office by Saturday if you want to stock up on Forever stamps before the rate goes up. They're 41 cents thru Saturday. Starting Monday first-class postage is 42 cents!

Other rate changes

Express Mail is switching to zone-based pricing, so will be cheaper for shipping close to home.
Priority Mail will have an average 3.5 percent savings for customers who use electronic postage or meet other requirements.
There's will be a new 62 cent stamp for non-machinable First-Class letters. (square cards, etc.)
First Class International will now have all the insane pita mess of distinctions as First Class got in the last change, so you now have to figure out whether you're mailing a letter or flat or parcel and there are 9 groups instead of 5... in short, theyr'e making it as impossible as possible to figure out how the heck to ship something First Class International (GRRRR).
USPS will now adjust mailing prices each May.

Forever stamps will be good ... well forever (they say! lol), so it might be a really good investment to stock up on them now. If postal rates increase by 1 cent every year for the next 4 years it'll be almost a 10% yield! lol

I haven't started a game in quite a while and had an idea for one that could help each of us spend down our points and get back to listing.......

The idea of this game is to help whoever is "it" to spend down his/her points by listing a personal ad for that person which fits something on his/her wanted list. You will need to contact that person with items that you have and agree before listing a private ad for that person. You can IM the person or email them info. "It" will also need to post the items that you purchase in one post and show the winner when you have spent enough points to hand the "It crown" to the next player.

You must have a link to your wanted list in your siggy line to play. I will work on updating my "want list" as I think about it.

Since I am starting, I will be "it" to begin with. Right now I have 650 points to spend (which is low for me). I would like to spend at least half of that before I list items again. I realize that several people have thousands of points to spend, so we need to be reasonable with how many points "it" spends until the next person gets to be "it". Hope this makes sense :D

The person who helps me spend down my points the most gets to be "it" next and we can all try to help that person spend down his/her points.

Seems that so many of us are reluctant to list because we have so many points built up. This is an attempt to get things moving.

I was contacted by a member asking me if i recieved a dvd that i ordered under a username of (EDITED OUT) which i dont even know ,that is using my address please dont send anything out to this person cause it is getting sent to me . I am contacting the post office to let them know that anything that is address to the person also known as (EDITED OUT) at my address will be sent back to sender. I guess this person has been ordering like dvd ,books etc.and other things I'm not sure of and using my address. I didnt know about poshpoint until today or that it even existed . I am new to this so sorry if I sound silly. I was just wondering why some of the postings for things on here seem so expensive. When I posted my used DVDs I placed them at 10-25 points each depending on how old they were. They went really fast (faster than I could get back to my account page) For me I felt that was fair for postage and the value of the DVD. Am I pricing these wrong? The only reason I priced them that way is because I feared some people may have actually paid for their posh points which are $1 a point. Can someone explain what is going on?

2. To be eligible for prizes, the item must be posted/sold/shipped in March 2008.. Items must be sold and shipped prior to March 31, at midnight EST. Sold/Shipped items must be posted to March entry thread prior to April 1, at midnight EST.

3. List of sold/shipped items should be posted in a separate thread, not here—I won’t count from this link. Please include clickable links, what the item was, and the point value for each item. I received a spam e-mail from a Posh Points member. The e-mail is a promotion letter for a new trading site to get new members. It was sent to the offending Posh member and forwarded to hundreds of others. The header on the e-mail contains hundreds of e-mail addresses including many members on this site. Some of the names were harvested from other trading sites also.

If you have a spam folder, you may not be aware, that your e-mail address has been forwarded.

You know what? I don't like my e-mail address sent to hundreds of people without my permission. I am appalled!!!!:sick:

Hello and good day to everyone here,

well not sure how to start this but i get wanted to make a formal apology to All and Everyone and esp. to the People whom ordered items from me that Either had to wait to get thier items for a long time or ended up having to file a point request form and got thier points back.

some i was abl;e to contact and some i never got the chance to contact, but i was sick for quite awhile hence the reason i have'nt been on here for awhile or participated, i have fibromylsia and found out i have something seriously wrong with my spine in 3 different spots that if it is'nt fixed with the next 2 years is going to result me being in a wheelchair for the rest of my living days!! Now ladies i am only 44 years young and i have'nt taken the news too well, plus i have been in severe pain and they put me on new meds and it made me real sick and had to change it and i just have'nt been doing too well, i get extremely cold then way too hot, etc,etc well i have gotten better (does'nt help that our weather can not make up its mind if it wants to stay winter or get to spring yet,lol)
anyway to top everything off my van broke down and then the money problems hit and hit me hard and i had NO money to send anything out and i just did not know what to do, i would scrap up a few buck and send a package out this day and that trying so hard to get all the items sent out to everyone, i still have 2 items to send out and when i logged in today i noticed another person has filed a point request form, so i am going to try hard to at least send the last item out, i feel so darn bad about all this i did not plan on all this happenning, i swear i did'nt and this is the first that this has happend.

I really wanted to let everyone know I am an honest person and i really tried hard to get your items out to you i really really did, i have a feedback or sent item thing of almost 600, so that should tell you something , i guess what i am doing is please please find it in your heart to forgive me cause when i get to feeling better and get my finaces going better and i will here soon i really want to put more items on here cause i have so much stuff i want to put on, i want everyone to trust me to send the stuff to you cause i will, this has just been a bad time and it has just been hard for me to handle everything, but i wanted everyone know i really tried, i tried very hard to get evryones items sent out to you i honestly did, i did the best i could and please forgive me

Posh has allowed the listing of items you have for sale, here or elsewhere in the Strut Your Stuff Forum.

General discussion about other trading type sites does not belong anywhere on the Posh Discussion Boards. It is like walking into Macy's and telling folks to go shop at Neiman Marcus.

Posh has always be lenient about sharing information regarding other sites. Please use common sense regarding this.

If you want this site to improve, list on a regular basis at fair prices. I'm not saying the "old" prices because that just does not seem to be happening no matter how much people regret it. But fair prices remain fair. And list even if your points build up a bit. I recently found a wonderful deal on a brand new steamer (clothing/upholstry/etc) at a very reasonable price, and I was so glad I had points enough to grab it the minute I found it. Yes, I do hold back on listing when my points get outrageously high, more because of mailing expenses at the moment than because I don't believe I'll eventually find something. But I am learning to set a "don't-spend-more" postage budget until I do get some of the postage back on quality items sent to me.

If you want this site to improve, stop blaming everything on the owners. They still are providing a site that functions pretty well. For no fees. I'm like everyone; I'd appreciate more current updates on what is being done, and I'd love to at least see the list of planned improvements and then see them checked off. But hey, this site still works and works as well as any no-fee site I've ever used. To my mind, the largest problem with the site is the totally negative attitudes of some participants. I try to avoid those threads, but every now and then I get into one. I'm happy to say that lately I've been seeing more "against" the gritchers than for them. I hope that continues.

My main point on the above is...consider a great new member who comes to Community and finds all this backbiting and complaining. Why list here if we allow this attitude to predominate? I totally agree that people who don't like it here should leave. Period.

I've met so many, many great Poshers here. Some have become friends as close as family. Needless to say these are not the people posting the negatives, but trying to list and swap and deal honestly and fairly.

If you want the Posh side to improve, in other words, be a good Posh member and supporter of other members. I don't see Posh as doomsville...unless people become so negative that the administration does give up on us. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN! Keep Poshing!

Official Rules for April Posting Contest

The rules for the April Posting contest are as follow:

All items must be of least $5 in value. You can combine items to get to the $5 mark. While I prefer new items, used ones are acceptable. For example, a book published in 1800 might be worth $5 and worth even more to a book lover. Use common sense, it goes a long way.
As stated above used items are acceptable as long as they are worth at least $5 and something you would not mind giving as a gift.
No trading cards, coins, recipes (except for recipe books), coupons, pdf files, emailable items, or pick up items will be allowed. I say this simply because it is not fair to someone who is selling a set of silverware and has $20 invested and another $10 in postage to compete against someone who can post thousands of cards, coins etc and have no postage to speak of involved. I want this contest to be about tangible items which is why I have such high pay offs.
You must make a thread in the proper pinned topic listing your posted items in order for them to be counted.
This thread must be posted by April 30th at midnight in order to count. Any submissions after that will not count unless you come directly to me with a really good excuse. (death in the family, etc.)
A grand prize will be given to the person who posts the most items abiding by the given rules. The prize will be 500 posh points.
Due to the generosity of people offering to give points for the prizes, I am now able to offer a second prize for the person who posts the most expensive item. In order to get the full offering for this prize, your item MUST be of at least $20 in value. I know it can be done as I post items more than that all the time. I would not ask anything from you I could not or would not do myself. If you post an item for $20 or above you will be eligible for the second prize of 250 posh points. If no one post an item over $20, I will give points in accordance to the value of the highest posted item. You need some way of proving the value of your item, such as a price tag or sales receipt. I do not care what you paid for it, just the value.
All items need to be mailed by April 30th.
June Ann is my monitor for this contest. Any questions or problems should be directed to her first. If she cannot resolve the matter in a positive way, I will then make a final decision and that will be the end of the it. Not being harsh, but there must be a cut off somewhere.
My final rule.....have FUN and POST away!!!! Have a blast. If you dont have fun, the meaning of the game will be lost.

Neither myself, June Ann or Shorty will be allowed to enter this contest. I excluded Shorty since she is my best friend. She is pouting but she will get over it...LOL. :D

What should I do with a returned item?

Back in Nov of last year someone poshed an item from me. I never had it confirmed, sent them an email asking if they received it. I never got a reply back. Then almost 2 months!! later it comes back to me, no such address. Even if I work at the PO, I can complain, that took way to long to get back to me. But once I received it back, I checked, the address I wrote was exactly as it was in posh, so I did not address it incorrectly. I have several times tried to email them, but no reponse. So I am sitting with this sold item in my account. I cant ask for the points, as it was never received by that person, but how do I get rid of it in my sold listing, its getting on my last nerve sitting there LOL. Also I never have seen this member post anything, or know anything about them and I feel bad it never got to them, but their address is wrong in posh.

So apparently we're all caught in this vicious cycle. No one will list because there's nothing to buy. And there's nothing to buy because no one will list. What is listed is either worthless flea market crap or priced so high it just doesn't seem worth it. Then those of us that do have stuff to list feel we have to price our stuff just as high to keep up with inflation so we can actually get something with the points. As for fairly priced stuff it disappears so fast apparently that I've rarely been lucky enough to catch it.

2 problems then:

1) inflation

2) unwillingness to list as a result of that inflation

Inflation then is the real problem. It's easy to talk about wanting our prices low but we also as sellers want to be able to buy something with our own points. Inflation only goes down if there's a mass movement and no one wants to be the only one with low prices and feel ripped off.

Here's what I suggest. It's unrealistic perhaps to suggest returning prices to what they were even 6 months ago. But perhaps we can hold the line on a few select types of items at least and prevent things from getting even more out of control.

Four types of items are generally tradeable on other swap sites and will always be a good investment whatever happens to posh.
1)movies
2)books
3)music CDS
4)videogames

As long as people are posting these types of items we all have something to buy that is at least an investment to be traded elsewhere if neccessary. Plus they can all be sent by media mail which puts a cap on postage costs as well.
These "media" items could also become the backbone of this site and keep it going because they are always popular and always sell eventually. They could keep trading going if more people would post them. More trading = more to buy = more listing.
The problem is inflation of course. No one wants to list because of it.
So what I propose is a voluntary price cap on those 4 items.

Right now I've noticed the average VHS movie goes for about 20 points.
Far from the heyday of even a few months ago but it's a starting point.
What I suggest is that we adopt a voluntary price cap of 20 points for all movies, cds, videogames and books. If we all agree to sell at no more than that, they will get bought and we will have something worthwhile to buy too (at least a good investment).
If this takes off it will cause more people to list and eventually start to restore normalcy to the site taking care of both inflation and the lack of listings. (At least in theory.)

I'm willing to start by example. I just dropped the price on my VHS listing of Wayne's World from 25 points to 20 points. And I officially pledge from now on to never list any item of the 4 media types listed above for anything higher than 20 points.

Thanks so much for all the great listings! There were a lot of the lower point items this month...whether they lasted long enough for us to see them or not! aprimrose1 had right at 200 items sold, several others had from 60 through more than 100. I take the contest as proof that Posh isn't going down the drain. People are just buying the good stuff fast.

Now let's all dig out our quality items for the April contest! I don't deal with enough new stuff to have much of a chance, but I'm going to try anyway...and Faye does have one contest for highest value item, not just for the most acceptable entries.
